Solid Brass Stylus

Description

A classic stylus, used for inscribing writing into wax tablets – one of the most common systems of writing in both the Ancient and the Medieval worlds.

The pointed end is used for "writing" in wax that has been coloured to make the letters more visible, while the flat end is used for smoothing letters over to "erase" them. When done, the whole tablet can be gently heated over a candle to soften the wax and allow the entire surface to be smoothed fresh.
